Elias settles into his father’s dusty home. He discovers the “Blank Ledger”—a book where his father recorded the things people forgot. He learns that the “Forgetting” follows a pattern: first, people lose their trivial memories (keys, dates), then their emotional anchors (first loves, childhood pets), and finally, their identities. He encounters the Town Mayor, a man who seems unnervingly sharp compared to the others. The Mayor warns Elias that “some things are better left in the dark.” That night, Elias sees a red light pulsing from the clock tower, and he notices a thin, red thread stretching from his own window toward the tower.
